A Healthy Fall Routine for Women

According to Ayurveda, the sister science to yoga, when the body is imbalanced in the Fall, the mind and nervous system are more vulnerable to experience increases in overthinking, anxiety, and rumination. Physically, the body may experience dryness via the eyes, nasal passages, skin, and colon. The counter-balance to the Fall season are warming and lubricating foods, grounding practices, and immune supportive practices. Curious about a healthy fall routine for women?

A Healthy Fall Routine for Women

Here's a few helpful Ayurvedic suggestions to help the mind and body feel more balanced from November through February:

  1. Enjoy ghee, avocado oil, olive oil, and other healthy fats like avocado and nuts and seeds

in your meals regularly. These bring lubrication to the body and are also said to calm the nervous system.

  1. Avoid excessive amounts of raw, cold foods. This prevents cold and dampness in the body and may prevent bloating during the cold, dry, airy season.

  1. Start your day with warm lemon water to help with digestion and move the lymph. Room temperature is also fine. Drinking a generous amount amount of water in the morning at roughly the same time can support regular elimination. Think 16oz of water.

  1. Take Ashwaganda or Rhiodiola and Turmeric to help stress and inflammation and prevent colds. The two former are adaptogens, herbs known to be soothing and building tonics for the central nervous system, supporting energy throughout the day and more restful sleep.

  1. Take vitamin D3 daily

  1. Use nasya nasal oil to soothe dry nasal passages as needed

  1. Exercise in the morning to increase circulation, immunity, and mood

mitigate stress. Any practice requires a bit of discipline simply to follow through with it, but many women find it deeply nourishing to slow down and consider the body's needs in the Fall and Winter season.

Be well and take excellent care!
